Impression:
I just read Pride and Prejudice. The subtlety shows the intelligence of the dialogue. Comparing that to the in-your-face approach of anime truly makes anime fall short. But on the other hand, the entertainment value of shows like Skip Beat is higher than long, intellectual novels. So, anime is the stuff of low, but satisfying entertainment. Skip Beat’s use of colorful backgrounds is very noticeable, but for this type of humor, it works.
